Learners Crochet Warmth and Hope for the Community
Students at Ormonde Primary have picked up crochet hooks and yarn to create beautiful blankets and scarves for community members in need. This heartwarming initiative combines creativity, skill-building, and compassionate community service.

Stitching Together Care and Compassion
Learners at Ormonde Primary School have launched a heartfelt crocheting project aimed at supporting vulnerable members of the community with handmade blankets. What began as a simple skills-development activity has now grown into a meaningful outreach initiative rooted in compassion, creativity, and community involvement.
The project was born from the school’s Wednesday Sports, Arts & Culture Programme, where learners are taught a variety of skills, sports codes, and arts and culture activities. Every Wednesday, learners participate in structured sessions that allow them to discover new talents while developing discipline, teamwork, and confidence.
During one of the arts and culture sessions, crocheting was introduced as a practical and therapeutic skill. As learners mastered basic stitches and began creating colorful squares, they were inspired to use their new skill to make a difference. The idea emerged to crochet blanket squares that can be joined together to form warm blankets for vulnerable individuals in the Ormonde community.
This initiative not only teaches patience and perseverance but also encourages empathy and social responsibility. Each learner contributes a small piece, demonstrating how collective effort can create something powerful and meaningful.
The school warmly invites community members, parents, and local organizations to partner with us in this project. Donations of wool, crochet hooks, and other materials are greatly appreciated, and individuals who are willing to share their crocheting skills and mentor our learners are welcome to join us. Together, we can wrap our community in warmth—one stitch at a time
